Stoumont Sanitarium - 4
Now I've got the railings in on the second floor balcony. I had to go back and clean up some of the cutting I did before as it wass rough. Under the railings I placed a strip of balsa wood to help give it a smooth even line, and to mimic the effect along the rest of the second floor porch areas. Ever watch glue dry?

Next comes window details. I decide to go with Granny grating and after studying the source photos I come up with this configuration. Notice that I dropped the white glue straight onto the pieces I want to cling together. As soon as I finished this shot I realized I could have just dropped the line of glue first... which I did on all the rest. Either way it seems to work just the same - you don't need a lot of glue - you'll see what I mean. Oh, and this was done on wax paper with the intent of peeling the glued portions off when it dries up solid. Note the top and bottom timbers are just to hold the pieces in place.

Here is a detail shot of the western end of the building showing battle damage. I'm currrently working on the middle detail, the four windows side by side. I think mine is close enough and I'm happy with them. Next I'll have to do the squat sets of three at top, the taller sets of three at bottom, and a tall set of two which will be most of the windows on the first and second floor along both lengths of the building. It seems like a lot of work, but actually it isn't that bad. Of course, I've only just begun.... Also, I've just realized by looking at this western end shot that the ends of the building have tall facings too, a floor shorter than the north south sides ( main picture at top, not the faces tot he side that are a floor shorter). Hmmm, didn't notice this at first, will have to be crative to correct the mistake...
